Dear Women of Congress
Women have been betrayed by both the Right and the Left in America. Will anyone speak out to protect the sex-based rights of women and girls? Can you hear us?
Dear Congresswomen,
I am a lifelong liberal and a mom.
I wanted to talk to you about the harms of placing gender identity as equal to sex in life and law and the unintended consequences it has on women and girls, including children, like mine, who are struggling with gender dysphoria and may have adopted a so-called “trans identity.”
I'm a lifelong liberal who has voted for Democrats for most of my adult life--with some exceptions based on policy positions. I've been excited to support more women entering politics and public office because I believe they can best represent our interests. I have voted for Senator Gillibrand several times. However, I cannot support Democratic woman entering public life and elected office to have them ignore the voices of women in critical legislation protecting their civil rights.
Let me be clear, I fully support and will advocate for legislation that protects all people to express themselves as they wish whether they espouse a gender identity or not and without the need to conform to sex-stereotyped preferences, partners and behaviors. However, protection of nonconforming gender expression is NOT a mandate to erase women’s hard-won sex-based rights.
The rights of women and girls as outlined by the UN's Convention must be upheld. These rights are based on our unique needs as a sex-class. These rights are not a privilege for females; they are a protection for us. They are based on sex because they are sex-based rights. Society must base women’s legal rights on clear, definable material reality, not an ill-defined and unverifiable "gender identity".
And yet, despite the support and campaigning that women did for Democrats, Biden in 2021 erased our sex-based rights on day one with a swipe of a pen in his executive order. It's not merely an insult; it's a deep betrayal. I feel erased, outraged, and empty. I feel like my party no longer sees me, my children or our entire sex-class. We have dissolved into nothing.
What’s more, the so-called Equality Act, which is pending, would solidify this erasure of women’s rights. The infrastructure bill also ties all funds to acceptance of gender ideology, which not only compel our actions and behaviors but also use the federal government to establish a new belief system that no longer believes women are real. Lifelong liberal feminist women like me do not consent.
I am closer to this issue because of the ways gender ideology has harmed my family. But I am not alone. I live in deep blue New York City. And yet, every week, I get several Facebook messages, texts or even stops on the street from other liberal women I know saying they too are frightened. They too are fed up. They too would like their sex-based rights maintained in life and law.
The tide is turning. That's why we're speaking out for the needs of women as mothers, as girls, as lesbians, and as a sex-class. Please hear our voices. We've put our trust in you.
Please listen to women.
It might already be too late!
Thank you,
A lifelong liberal and former Democrat
Special thank you to Kara Dansky, Kathleen Stock, JK Rowling, Meghan Murphy, Kellie-Jay Keen and many other brave feminists for giving us the words to speak up for women’s rights around the world.
